Engraved Stewart decanter

Post by Russell » Mon Aug 28, 2006 11:34 pm

Hi all those Stewart descendants.

I have a crystal decanter I bought at a local (West of Scotland) auction.
It has a modified Stewart coat of arms engraved on it.
In the banner it reads
'For Stewart aye'
below this the dates
1831-1981.
It is a heavy rectangular decanter with a deep-cut, flat, circular stopper.

Is this span of dates significant to those who are of this family?

I would like to find out more about the engraved dates before deciding where it should be re-homed.

Ideas please.

This might answer your question. It is a link to an ended sale on eBay. Seems the dates are signifanct to the distillers rather than a Stewart family. The description is down the page a bit.

Thanks for that Mary

It answers a question that has been hanging around for over a year.
I've had the decanter for longer than that :? but since it was still acting as a receptacle for a good malt I didn't think to ask the question :?

You must have a rag bag mind full of useless bits, like mine. Just takes a picture or a description to trigger the memory. Comes in handy sometimes doesn't it even if others may mock ?

Now ! Who do I know called Stewart :?:
