Catherine McLaren - Clackmannan/Stirling/Alloa.....

Okay, let's see if anyone can help with this character.

Catherine McLaren is born around 1837 in Sauchill in Clackmannan to Thomas McLaren and Mary Morrison. She marries William Kirkland in 1860 and they have lots of children including my great-grandfather Andrew. Catherine dies in 1879 of puerperal fever after the birth of child number nine or ten, I can't remember which off the top of my head in Tillicoultry and she is buried in the cemetery there.

However, I am having problems tracking down Thomas and Mary. I have found a couple with those names marrying in Alloa in 1822 but whether they are the right family I don't know and I don't have death certs or anything for them.

Any ideas? So far Catherine is a big blank in my tree and I'd like to get her back a generation or two - I've got Kirklands back as far as 1789 in Tillicoultry so I'd like to get the rest of the lines back at least as that!

I presume you have had a look for them on the 1841 Census?
That would seem the most obvious way as she would be so young that you would expect her to be with her parents & any other sibs.She may even be around with them in the 1851 one too.It should give place of birth so you could have a look at the Parish Records.

Thanks for that - I've had a quick look but no appearance on FreeCen but will keep her in mind for my next visit to Register House in a fortnight. I have had a look through OPRs but I don't recall having a lot of success where she was concerned.
