The Vanishing George Robb

Post by Pandabean » Fri Sep 08, 2006 8:09 am

Yesterday I spent some time looking for a George Robb in the Falkirk area. I found him on the 1851 census but I can only find his wife and kids in the 1861-71 census. His occupation is a Gardener so he may be moving about. Is there anyway to find him?

In the 1851 census I am unsure if his Birthplace is Dalmeny?, Linlithgowshire. It took me a while to read it but I just want to be sure it is that place as on the IGI I have found possible parents and a birth in 1815 in Dalmeny, West Lothian.

The other thing is that I found his DC in Linlithgow 1879 but no parents are mentioned:

George Robb - Gardener - Married - Pauper
21st September 1879
Union Poor House, Linlithgow

The informant is the House Govener.

Is there a way to find why he was in the poor house?

Have a look at this web page. There are some addresses that might be able to provide information.

It was this site that pointed me in the right direction to find out about someone who died in a Perthshire poorhouse.

I spoke to the contact and they do not hold the records. I was however given another person to contact but seeing as I cant get down to Linlithgow I am stuck at the mo.
