the right whites?.....

Hi all,

trying to find parents for my gggggrandmother, Jean/Jane McINTOSH ms WHITE/WHYTE. Have her DC 1888 age is out and son James does not know her mothers name. Father John WHITE, muslin weaver. Also have Poorlaw application made in 1886, age given as 75, again mothers name not known.

Have her in 1841 census in Welbeck st.

Married James McINTOSH 1834 Kilmarnock, Robertson Pl.

Out of possible births for Jean, I was leaning towards the one in 1814 Kilmarnock to John WHITE and Margerat WILSON. THey also had a Daughter Ann (which I liked because Jean and James named one of their daughters Annie).

Have now found Ann WHITE married William GALLOWAY 1830 Kilmarnock. This couple are living in Robertson Pl on the 1841 census. (on freecen, Robertson Pl runs onto Welbeck st, does this mean it also does in real life?)

Have found Ann GALLOWAY ms WHITE dc. She died 1874 Soulis St (another street where I know family members lived) father John WHITE mother Margaret WHITE ms WILSON.

This all ties in, but I don't think any of it is definite proof. Is there anything else I could be looking at to prove what I have found. (also have Margaret White ms Wilson dc for 1858 which gives nothing away,except she was living on Sandbed st, another address I have family members at)

A marriage check on JEAN brings up parents as JOHN WHITE and MARGARET WILSON .

3. ANNE WHITE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 05 APR 1812 St. Quivox And Newton, Ayr, Scotland

Hi Maureen,

I have the three girls from the IGI. I'm not sure what you mean by "a marriage check brings up parents as John White and Margaret Wilson". Annette M had a look at the OPR entry for the Marriage of James McIntosh and Jean White for me and from what I can remember right now the only additional info on this was that it took place at Robertson Pl.

Thanks for clearing that up. I notice you have Blue in you names list. They didn't end up in Lanarkshire. I have one of my lot, Ellen/Helen LOCHIEL m Daniel Blue c1840.

I must be misinterpreting what you have said. I'm aware of IGI/family search. you've said "a marriage check on jean brings up parents as JOHN WHITE and MARGARET WILSON" It's an OPR marriage and to the best of my knowledge there are no parents listed on these. Am I missing something?

That's OK.

Must admitt, I spent ages after the kids went to bed looking for the info I thought I must be missing. Not to worry though, I am much better acquainted with the Whites in Kilmarnock now. Still haven't found any proof that I have the right ones though.

Hi All,

Think I have had a bit of a break through, and would just like some oppinions /advice. I am now in contact with another one of Jean WHITE/McINTOSH's descendants. She comes down through her daughter Annie's line. She has sent me a copy of Annie's Marriage cert to William McMURRAN. One of the witnesses on this MC is Jean GALLOWAY. I know this is not definate proof, but I'm thinking this is possibly her cousin, who could probably be Anne WHITE/GALLOWAY's Daughter.(she did have a daughter Jean as per Poorlaw application).

Also, is it possible that Jean's poorlaw application was filled out by her son (or one of the other kids), as I find it strange that she would not know her own mothers name?
