Margaret

Was anyone able to help you out here?

Trying to find where and when people came to Scotland from Ireland is very tricky. My father's parents came to Scotland to work in the bleachfields at Howwood in Renfrewshire.

It might be worth looking at the types of employment available in Coatbridge and the surrounding areas (mining?? and heavy industry??) at the time you're family are thought to have moved there. That might give you some clues.

Hi Maggie,

I did a free search at SP for Hugh Duff* aged between 17 and 25 on the 1871 census and only five results were returned. None of them were in Coatbridge.

Where was Hugh in the 1881 and 1891 censuses? Have you found his parents on the 1881 census?

Hugh Duffy was in Old Monkland census in 1881 and 1891. He is married in 1877 in Coatbridge. Cant find his parents on those censuses.
