Desperately Seeking SHARON....CALDWELL / URE.....
A lady called SHARON tried to contact me on a Paisley website regarding her mother's family. She named Robert Caldwell and Helen Ure, and from this information I can see that she is distantly related to me. I was unable to follow up her contact at the time, and have been unable to trace her since. This is in the hope that if she reads this, she will get in touch. Ellen.

Greetings Sharon.
It's brilliant to see posts acknowledged, even if it is over four years later. It gives us all extra encouragement.
Welcome to TalkingScot.
May I suggest that you also try leaving a PRIVATE MESSAGE for ELLEN. On this site you can leave PM'S from the get - go, unlike some others where you have to have made a number of posts.
If you are lucky Ellen will have enabled the icon (at bottom of posting form) that sends her an email each time there is a reply to her post, but if not, when using the PM option, the private message is immediately sent to the email address she registered when she signed up. That way you don't have to wait until a poster returns to the site, to get a message through.
Best of luck.
(Assuming the email address is still current.)
Alan SHARP.

Hi Sharon,
Am posting this in case you don't get my private message for any reason. I have sent you my email address and if that doesn't reach you, please let me know through the forum and I'll try again. Regards, Ellen.

Hello Alan Sharp
I am trying to send a private message to Sharon but the system doesn't seem to work for me. Have tried to send one to you too just to see if that works. But I get the message that the member does not exist. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Ellen.

Hi Ellen,
At the bottom of Sharon's post, click on the PM box and it should take you right to the messaging area with a box open all ready to type into.
All the best,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah.
Re. your reply about sending a private message, have I got this right? There is a PM box, not at the bottom of the post, but in the box to the right of it - on pressing this the writing box appears and after writing a message and sending it, the words "the requested users to be added do not exist". appear in red above the box, which is now empty and there is no record of the message having been sent. I sent one to yourself. Did that work?
Thanks. Ellen.

Re: Desperately Seeking SHARON....CALDWELL / URE.....
Hello Ellen.
Sorry - I've been away from home a few days and am now (10.30pm) trying to catch up with 24 incoming emails.
Re PM messaging, I struck this problem before, and it is discussed with one of the Moderator’s on another post. The moderators’ of the posts, started with a different service provider to the one now used. Some controls are now in different positions, and as 'moderators' the images/format they see are different to ours, so some times their directions are not 100%.
On the right hand side of a post, you will see details about the poster and a little icon that looks a bit like a keyhole, this icon will take you to the page you can post a direct PM on. You can also reach the same page by going to your USER CONTROL PANEL (2nd banner down) and select the form you want. I find with this process I have to remember not to confuse the USER NAME and the poster's signature. The direct link automatically indicates the user name to be used in the address panel.
Best of luck.
Alan SHARP.

Hi Ellen,
No, I didn't get a pm from you
I hope Alan's suggestions work.
Thanks, Alan, for the update of what the board looks like to non-moderators. I tried logging out to see what was going on, but then of course I wasn't any sort of member at all like that, and there were no buttons to click on!
You have reminded me that I should open another account to test things like that. Should have done it long ago
Cheers,
Sarah
