McRae from Assynt and Wick.....

Post by ShellDeLeo » Tue Sep 19, 2006 5:01 pm

I'm puzzling over Norman Kerr's death informant (1865) Colin McRae - he put himself down as Norman's cousin at an address of Dempster St, Pultneytown, Wick. He's on the 1871 Census at Dempster St, born Assynt, age 64, fisherman, with wife Christian age 60 born Wick and sister in law Helen Taylor, unmarried age 57. He's not on the census for 1861 in Wick and the only Colin McRae in Stoer then is a tailor married to Mary McLeod (daughter of William McLeod and Isabella McKenzie). Any ideas?

hi im trying to determine colin mc rae was norman kerr's cousin
i know that norman was born 1800 assynt son of murdoch kerr and christian mckenzie
normans first wife was margaret mc leod

just trying to put the pieces of the puzzles to gether thanks michele

Hi Michele

Just one remark. The term cousin is often used in its widest sense in Highland communities. He could well be only a cousin by mariage. I see on another of your posts that you have a John Macleod that has a Macleod/McKenzie parentage like Colin McRae's wife, Mary.

Best wishes
