John Yuill and Family - Where have they gone?

Post by sty » Mon Sep 25, 2006 7:38 pm

Hi

Can anyone help me solve this problem. I have lost a whole Family!! :(

Father : John Yuill Born 14 jul 1844 Killearn
Mother : Jane McGowan Born 1848 Kilmadock Perthshire

Jean called Jane Murdoch Yuill Born 26 May 1878 Glasgow ( Crown St)

Elizabeth Robertson Yuill Born 24 Jun 1880 Drymen
Isabella McGowan Yuill Born 1882 Drymen
Annie Yuill Born 1884 Drymen
Alexander John Yuill Born 1887 Drymen
Robert McGowan Yuill Born 1889 Drymen

I have the Family at the Clachandry Farm Drymen in the 1881 and the 1891 Census, and John was still showing cattle and horses around the markets in 1898 - then nothing !!

No Deaths, no Census

Came anyone help - where can I look next !

Thanks

Hi Sty
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D
I'm not sure what you have tried so far, but my first thought is that the surname is one which is very prone to spelling variations.

However, having said that, in 1901 there seems to be an 11yr old Robert Yuill in Drymen, Stirling in 1901, and thirteen year old Alexander Yuill & a 16yr old Ann* - don't have any credits so can't check to see if they are in the same place (by number) but it kinda looks worth checking if you have not already.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi sty

Ummmm.....you didn't mention 1901 census. They were still in Drymen then. I searched on Alexander and it takes you to the whole family.

1901 YUILL ALEX I M 13 DRYMEN /STIRLING 477/00 002/00 003

You're right though in that there don't seem to be any easily found marriages or deaths for any family members after this. It would seem they must have emigrated.....any ideas on which direction to look first????

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Lesley and Jean

Thank you both for your time.

Yes it looks as if they just disappear! I don't know where they have gone.

I wonder what happened, the farm in Drymen is still there today. I will keep looking - maybe they will turn up.

Thanks again
