My MCKINNONs are a hard lot to catch! Part of the trouble was they were Free Church early on, then took a Baptist turn for a while. Also, looks like they were "lost" in some terribly remote place for a time, because my great grandfather, Neil MCKINNON, (abt. 1845 - Jan. 1931) had no education & no English. Here is what I know ...
Neil was the son of Archibald MCKINNON & Catherine MCARTHUR who married April 26, 1831, Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Argyll. Neil had an elder brother, Donald, (who did get schooling somehow), & 2 sisters, Catherine (who married James MCDOUGALL or MCARTHUR) & Ann (who some say married a WHITE). We have found no birth records for any of these above mentioned children born between 1831 - 1850 ... & there could be more than 4 children too, for all we know! Can anyone see this family hiding anywhere???
I should mention too that there was something odd about Neil's circa 1883 marriage to Ann PATTERSON (b abt. 1857, d/o Donald PATTERSON & Isabella PATTERSON) Had a hard time finding marriage reg for them - then it turned out his name was given as Donald, not Neil. Hmmmm
Any clues would be helpful & appreciated. Thank you!
