Canadian Passenger Lists 1865- 1922 online .....

Post by grannysrock » Fri Oct 20, 2006 12:57 pm

Sorry if this has been mentioned before - but I just stumbled across this by following a link from TheShipsList website :

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivi ... dex-e.html

I can't see it on the main index for Collections Canada so perhaps it is quite new.

The collection contains scanned images of passenger lists - searchable by
-Name of Ship,
-Year of Arrival,
-Port of Arrival,
-Port Of Departure and
-Shipping Line.

You can also search for a specific date of departure or arrival.

Passenger lists (RG 76) were the official immigration documents from 1865 to 1935. The lists contain information such as the name, age, country of origin, occupation and destination of each passenger. The lists are organized by port and date of arrival. This database provides access to passenger lists for the ports of Québec (1865-1921), Halifax (1881-1912, to 1922 shortly), to Saint John (1900-1912), North Sydney (1906-1908), Vancouver (1905-1912) and Victoria (1905 to 1912), shortly.

The current version of this database does not include the references for the port of Victoria, New York and Eastern American coast.

Perhaps some other organisation like automated genealogy or Ancestry will index it - in the meantime you would have to have a pretty specific idea of the time period to track down your Canadian bound ancestors ( won't put me off though! :) )

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT LINK!

The two wee girls I have been looking for are on the list and I am feeling quite emotional.

Yep - thanks from me too - though I'm half blind already! Only know the year, 1910 from the 1911 census so I only have 746 ships to wade through!

Ditto - don't know if my eyes can take much more!!
35 ships in 1903, Glasgow to Canada - looked at 22 ships so far & no sign of the family I'm looking for! No matter what order I view them in, I fully expect they will be in the last one I look at....

Best wishes
Lesley

Thank you Sally :D I was lucky enough to find my folk on Ancestry index and found info about the voyage (fog all the way) somewhere else, but to get the actual image is fantastic.

Good luck to everyone in searching - maybe the Ancestry index would narrow it down? I've just discovered I can access Ancestry.com at my local library, so worth asking.

Best wishes
