Hi Michelle,
Well a quick trawl through the IGI comes up with only one....that I can see...that is born on 12/12/1862. There is an extracted entry for a John Stewart born to a Mary Stewart in Dumfries.
That's only the IGI that I've looked at though.
On SP using a wildcard of John St*art and only the year 1862, there are 117 entries over 5 pages.
Do you have any more information, at all, about him?

Based on the info re his birth in Sutherland, there might be a glimmer of hope for you.
I've just done a search on SP and if you put in John St*art, 1862 and Sutherland in the County/City/Minor records bit, it comes up with only one to look at.
Unfortunately I'm out of credits at the mo, so I can't check for you.
