Tree in Excel

Post by Pandabean » Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:52 am

I have just about finished creating a tree outline in Excel and have managed to get 4 generations per sheet. Basically just a simplified way of showing your information to relatives.

What I would like to know is, would anyone be interested in a copy of it. If so I can upload it later when it is done and it can be used by all.

Also is there any info other than basic info (BMD, Occup. and Buried Date) that you would like to see on it?

Hope it is ok to post this.

Hi Andy, I would be interested as I use computers in a variety of locations and Excel is standard across all of them whereas my Geneology software is only on my own laptop.

Here we go, I have uploaded it onto my user gallery as I couldnt see anywhere else to upload it.

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-863

It comes with two sheets; the main one and the continuation sheet. They can both be printed out and written in by hand and if need be I can make it a PDF file for those that do not have excel.

Any problems/questions/improvements then please don't hesitate to ask.

Andy,

:) What a handy little sheet.
I, for one, will find it very useful.
Thank you very much.

Best wishes,
Meg

Hi Andy

Great idea

Would you mind if I offered it to some of my Family History group.
So far only a couple of them could cope with Excel so far though :)

My handwriting is too big to fit neatly into the pre-printed sheets anyway.

Yeh thats not a problem.

I will try and make a PDF of it as well. That way anyone who has not got excel can print them off and use them.

I am also planning a kind of tick-off sheet for family lines to help with see what certificates are required/already got. Don't know if it would be useful though.

Andy,

I think you should speak to Drew Davidson as he has already worked on a very similar sheet...maybe you are both doing the same thing and two heads are always better than one.

Cheers

Andy,

this is a great idea! I've been lookiing for a way to send info to family members who don't have genealogy software for ages now. I had tried Excel - obviously my pc skills are wanting! Second idea great too - I've tried that in Excel with some excess but it's still awkward - seems like I could have saved myself all that bother!

Thanks again
