Andrew Young & Mary were did they come from in Scotland.

Post by Canadian girl » Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:25 pm

Hi
I am in Canada and trying to find the link from here back to Scotland. Here is the information I have relating to the Youngs here.

Andrew Young born: March or April 1780 Scotland
married
Mary (?) born: 1805 Scotland

children:
Hugh Young b: March 1827 Scotland
John Young b: 1831 or 1836 Scotland
Agnes Young b: 1832 Scotland
Margaret Young b: 1833 - 1834 Scotland

The family then set sail for Canada around the time of 1836-1838 since I have a record of the first child born in Canada birth Feb.1839 in New Brunswick Canada.

There were three more born here in Canada. Along side of these stones at the cemetery I found the names of William Young and Thomas Young but with only information regarding the death no information to who they were. I am guess that if they are related then they are brothers, cousin or nephew to Andrew and were already here in Canada or came with Andrew and his family.

Does any of this sound like a part of your family tree? if so then please email and I will share all information about the family here in Canada.
thank you

Hi Canadian Girl

I noticed you had not replies to your query.

The dates you have given for the children's births are approximate.
could I ask how you found them or were they calculated from the information you had about their later lives.
I usually try IGI (familysearch) and do a search for all the children of these parents. There are quite a few Andrew Youngs marrying Marys and the closest were

HUGH YOUNG Christening: 17 JUL 1836 Perth, Perth, Scotland
JOHN YOUNG
Christening: 09 MAY 1841 Perth, Perth, Scotland
MARGARET YOUNG
Christening: 16 SEP 1838 Perth, Perth, Scotland
The dates are quite a bit out though.
If you get no results from this it may mean that they belonged to one of the smaller branches of the church whose records have not yet been listed or are not available.
Have you looked for them on the OPR on scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It is possible to do a search for children using only the family name with the names of parents entered separately. Having an approximate date span would eliminate most of the other Andrew/Mary marriages. This would bring up a list of possibles and the parish which would make further searches more focussed.
hope this helps

Hi
thank you for the post. I have gotten my information from a family book, census, marriage lic. and death lic. I believe the children that you posted are the children of Andrew Young and a Mary Jackson...almost all the same childrens names but I know for a fact that the first child born to my family was Feb. 1839 in New Brunswick.
thank you again and if there is any other ideas or information let me know
