Nithedale House, Dumfries.....

Post by isobelc » Sat Nov 11, 2006 4:50 pm

Hi,

I am helping a friend research her tree. Her great grandmother died in the early 1950's at what looks like Nithedale House, Dumfries. A usual address in Edinburgh is also recorded on the certificate.

Can anyone tell me whether Nithedale House was some sort of hospital/home. The next death on the page also took place there, which suggests it was some sort of institution.

Thanks,
Isobel

Hi Isobel

There was a Nithsdale House which was an old people's home up until about 10 years ago in Dumfries. I think it was in George Street - if the address helps.

Hi Morag,

Thanks for that. Sounds like a possibility.
