but - The names the same!
I'm in a bit of a quandry here!
My Great Grandmother was Margaret Ross Crichton born 1869 in Glasgow, father James Crichton and mother Margaret Girtrigg/Girtridge.
Some of you will know the difficulties I've had with the Girtrigg line and, to my shame, have kinda ignored the Crichton lot, so James was the last I'd got to on that side.
Purely by accident, I discovered a marriage in Kilsyth in 1928 for another Margaret Ross Crichton born c1906, father named James Crichton and mother Mary Garden (they were married 1895 in Aberdeen and his parents were also married in Aberdeen).
Not knowing where my Great Grandmother's father was born, is it beyond the realms of possibility that these two Margaret Ross Crichtons could be related?
Possibly the second one is a granddaughter of the first one's father or one of his brothers?
If I could just find the MC for James and Margaret (Girtrigg), I'd possibly get more clues, but have had absolutely no luck with that yet.
As you can see, I've spent a few credits on SP to get that much about the 2nd Margaret.
Faced with the same dilemma, would you good folk suggest I try taking it back a bit further with both trails and see if I "meet somewhere", or should I accept the possibility that the "names the same" is pure coincidence ?

Hi Mary - not sure if you've got Margaret Crichton/Girtrigg's death already but there's one on SP in 1907 - Margaret Cri*ton Girtrig* in Springburn? You may have found it already, but I couldn't see a mention of a death in your posts. (btw - Springburn's not a million miles away from Kilsyth).
Good luck

Yes I had that one thanks, Pinkshoes.
She's the 1st Margaret Ross Crichton's mother, so my Great Great Grandmother.
It's her and James Crichton's MC that I really need to find, or his DC, which would at least get me his parents' names.
If it turns out that they are not connected to the 2nd MRC's rellies, I might lay her lot aside and stick to my confirmed bunch, (if you know what I mean
which is more than I can say I do at the moment
).
Why didn't I just stick to jigsaws

Tell me about it, CathyCathy wrote:Hi Mary,
I had a bit of a nightmare with this name.
Came up as Craton / Creaton / Crichton / Crighton / Creighton.
I'm pretty sure there are others.
And I'd guess he was from Ireland.
I mean, having a Craton / Creaton / Crichton / Crighton / Creighton marrying a Girtrig / Girtrig / Girtridge / Gitrig / Gerthridge / Gerthrigg, you can see the problem trying to find their marriage
...and I pray they didn't come from Ireland

OK, so I know I've run the search for James Crichton's DC several times. Never found it
Tonight, just in case, I ran the same search again, with wildcards!
There he was, in 1903
Even the spelling was CORRECT
His father was Alexander and his mother was Mary Menzies.
One of the witnesses on one of the "other" Crichton lot's marriages in 1895 was an Alexander Crichton!
The thick plottens
