Hi Ellen,

Two possibilities to offer (no proof for either):

1) The term "widower" was a mistake.
2) They were living apart and denying one-another's existence.

All the best,

Hello Ellen,

I think Andrew's first guess will probably be correct.

I don't think you will find a marriage for them in Scotland as their children were all born in Ireland.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hello Ellen,

Here is who I think is the Robert Anderson who died in 1887 from the 1881 census -

This is the address given at his death so I would think there is a strong chance that this is his son Robert -

A quick search for the birth of his grandson John gives -

JOHN MAGEE
Male

Event(s):
Birth: 07 JUN 1867 0565, Coleraine, Londonderry, Ireland

Parents:
Father: JOHN MAGEE Family
Mother: MARTHA JANE ANDERSON

Hopefully this is your family and you now have a starting point in Ireland.

I can't help there but hopefully others will.

Kind regards,
Annette M
