Mystery? Who is Nelly Doody?

Post by emanday » Thu Nov 23, 2006 11:31 pm

While adding my son's Mac onto my home network connection, so that we could transfer files to each other, I realised that I had an extra one. :?

It's called "My Websites on MSN". Funny, I thought, but maybe it something to do with this new Messenger Live thingy, so I clicked on it.

Asked for my MSN signin and password which was accepted as usual, but...

What came up was nothing to do with me, although it IS someone's genealogy stuff.

So, if any of you folks recognise the following names...
Anne Woulfe, Patty Ann Dixon, Nelly Doody, Bridget Quilligan, or have posted a piccy of Catherine and Patrick Dawson & Children on their MSN web site...

Get in touch with me.

I've been off googling...do you think it could have a Titanic connection
......or should I just go off to bed?

Patrick Dawson, described as a joiner, aged 44, is found living at a tenement in Rutland Street, north Dublin. Catherine, a year older and listed as Kate, is described as his wife although no certificate was ever issued. Here are the children - Maggie Dawson, aged 8, and Joseph, 12.

It is April 1901. In eleven years, Joseph Dawson will be the 23-year-old trimmer from Dublin who signs aboard the RMS Titanic. For now however, the family must live in just two small rooms, one of nine families compressed into the four-storey tenement. And they are among the lucky ones - other families of eight and nine members make do with a single room.
Makes interesting reading, whatever!!

Best wishes
Lesley

That was my initial reaction, Lesley, but I've got my wireless router set to restrict wireless access only to my own laptop (for when I want to watch telly downstairs), and my son's Mac laptop. It also asks for a password, so there is really double protection. Both our desktops are on LAN cables. The only way anyone could get access to the desktops is via our lappies' wireless links if the restriction wasn't set up.

The problem is that, as it's someone else's web site, why did MSN accept my login and password to let me into it? :?

Hi Mary
I've certainly seen this sort of thing happen on public use computers in classrooms and libraries for exanple, if the previous user has not signed out of an account or has possibly previously ticked an "always sign me in automaticcally" type option, but that could hardly be the case with your own PCs.... very odd indeed....

Best wishes

This is getting spooky!

Just had another look at the photo of this family. The date 1907 and all the children's names are written on it...

They are in what I think is age order, Jack, Mary, Madge, Kit also Eileen and Bill who could easily be twins.

By the way, I never mentioned in my original post that the site is called "My Irish Relatives"

 Cold shiver running down back now
