Innkeeper Main Street Mauchline

Post by angel » Sun Dec 10, 2006 12:56 am

Hello

I am looking for informaintion on Public House in Main Street Mauchline. William Calderwood was there in 1841 and I would like to know how to find out which pub he had and how long he was there for. Is this possible please?

Hi Heather
I would think there might be some trade directory for the area which might help. Suspect one of the Ayrshire libraries would be a place to ask, of maybe even the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

I'm sure someone more knowlegeable will be along soon, though!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Heather

He had been there since at least 1837 - in the "Cross Keys". A transcription of the 1837 directory for Ayrshire is online at the Maybole site here: http://www.maybole.org/history/archives ... chline.htm

All the best
