McKay, Robello, Meldrum & Mortimer from Aberdeenshire...

Post by PaulB28 » Tue Dec 19, 2006 9:51 pm

I wonder if anyone has any information on the following families.

Robello - Looking for information on Paul Robello who married Mary Ann McKay daughter of William McKay and Maria Withnall on the 16th of December 1853. Also the McKay family mary ann had a sister Catherine McKay who was born in Aberdeen in 1834 she had two children with a James Davie, James and clara. Catherine then married William Aitken in Edinburgh in 1868.

Meldrum - Looking for information on the family of George Meldrum and Elspet Mackie who married on the 9th of August 1800. I know they had at least five children George (1800), Mary (1804), Jean (1802), Anne (1808) and Margaret. All the children were born in Insch except George who was born in Leslie.

Mortimer - Looking for information on Alexander Mortimer & Elspet Watt who were married in 1773 in Insch. They had one child William Mortimer who married Margaret McRonald in Insch in 1801. They had two children Janet (1802) & John (1803). The Mortimers lived at Overboddam (upper Boddam) in Insch.

Hi Paul
So far it doesnt look like anyone has a connection to the names you mentioned...but you never know, someone might turn up!

Have you tried looking for the Robellos in the 1841 census and then following them through later census years too? That might give you a little more information about the family.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesely and Davie.

Firstly Sorry for taking so long to replying to you.

Since I put on the this post I now found Paul Robello Snr on the 1841 cenus onwards!

I found him on the 1841 census as a street musician living in a lodging house in London aged 15. By 1851 census he was still street muscian but he was living in a lodging house in Edinburgh.

He married in 1853 in Aberdeen a Mary Ann McKay who's mother ran a lodging house in Aberdeen. So i am almost certain that how they met.

I have been looking for him for quite a while on the earlier census records as we did'nt know how he ended up in Aberdeen.

His son Paul Robello (my G Grandfather) filmed topical films. Scottish Screen Archive gave our family copies of his films some years back. I contacted them year ago as they had the wrong place of birth on the biography of him on their website, unfortunately they never updated it!

Regards

Paul
