Hi Tracey,
What is the size of the file?
What type of file? (jpg, tif, something else?)
What part of the Gallery are you trying to upload to?
All the best,
Andrew

Hi Tracey,
Try saving the file as "Tif" and not bitmap.
Regards
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn
When i edit things they automatically save as bitmap

Tiff on my pc isnt something i am familiar with but will have another go at editing and see if i get an option of how to save edited files.
Thanks
Tracey

Hi Tracey,
It is almost certainly the filesize (kbytes) that is stopping your image upload from succeeding.
As a bitmap is not compressed of any sorts, it can be a large file (essentially height x width x max amount of colours). If it is a black and white file and is saved as a black and white bitmap, then the file size can be quite small. If it is a greyscale or colored image, then the file size increases.
For a black and white or greyscale image, tif format is good. For a coloured image, then jpg format compresses it - usually to a managable size).
All the best,
Andrew

I have a page i downloaded from Ancestry ship lists and i cant make out a birth place, the writing is clear enough i just dont know what it is saying to me ! So as it was a big file i edited it and just "cut" the area where it has birth place written and i have just gone and done it again and i only get the option to save as bitmap after editing so................
I also only have the editing/photo software my pc was born with so no fancy stuff for me and maybe thats why i cant change this.
Oh well ...........but many thanks
Tracey

Hi Tracey
What program are you using to open and work with the image? It should give its name along the blue title bar at the top of the window.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Tracey
You can save as other image types in Paint. When saving go to File>Save As... in the "Save as..." dialog box, at the bottom, there is a drop down menu called Save as type. You should be able to change the file format of the image there. I reckon jpeg is probably your best "all purporse" image file type for uploading to TS.
best wishes
