Which Parish is this in?

Can anyone tell me in which parish I would find Inverawe?

Hi Ina,

It should be in Ardchattan, but is very close to the parish boundary with Glenorchy and Inishail. At a push, it is also close to Muckairn.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi Ina,

Go to http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotlan ... _list.html
Click on sheet 45 - Oban

Ardchattan is the large yellow-coloured parish that is on both sides of the north-southish limb of Loch Etive. Glenorchy & Inishail is the blue-coloured parish to the south and east of Ardchattan. Muckairn is the other yellow-coloured parish to the west of Glenorchy and Inishail.

Inverawe is at the mouth of the River Awe (gaelic Inbhir = Inver, meaning at the mouth of the River...). Click on the narrow point of Glenorchy and Inishail almost in the centre of the map. Keep clicking on it until you can read the place names. Just over the parish boundary into Ardchattan, you will find Inverawe House. There doesn't appear to be a village of Inverawe. Inverawe may have been the are surrounding the house. On the other side of the boundary you will find the village of Bonawe.

All the best,

Andrew

Once again, thank you Andrew, would never have found this without your directions.

These maps are wonderful.

Ina

Inverawe is on the banks of Loch Awe in Argyll. I've driven through it dozens of times and visited the wonderful Inverawe Smokery to buy smoked salmon and have their "Platter" in the lovely wee tearoom.
They even have fishing pools where you can be taught fly fishing for their wonderful trout.

The actual village is on the A85 on the right, while the Smokery is way up on the hill via a turning on the left (coming from Oban heading for Glasgow).

I'd say the village is about halfway between that turning and Bridge of Awe. It does have a signpost telling you are in it but you are back out of it again almost right away. It is a WEE village  not much more than a row of houses on the right, although the sparsly spread houses on the road up to the Smokery are probably part of it as well. It is classed as Inverawe, Taynuilt in the AA route map.
