Writting the Family History

Post by Pandabean » Wed Jan 03, 2007 12:51 pm

I had a thought the other day about writting down the family history in a book like form so that it can be easily passed out to the relatives. But then thought that may cause problems as I will have to split it into my mum and dad's side.

Then I thought about where would be the best place to start? At the start 1700s or start from now and work back.

Has anyone attempted writting their history in a book like form? If so has anyone got any tips on how to write it?

Hi Andy
I seem to remember a post on this subject before, a while back. There were several reources on the web mentioned which gave ideas and hints as to how to go about it. If I find it I'll post the link here as it may contain some useful info.

Best wishes
Lesley

Also from another forum

I have done as you mentioned & split my story into two books. I have a chapter for each major family name, link them in a brief introduction & then write each chapter from the past to the present.

I am eternally updating and rewriting - and am sure it will never be "finished"

There are a couple of posts about this on TS

viewtopic.php?t=6196&highlight=writing+family+history

viewtopic.php?t=3044&highlight=writing+family+history

I used the SEARCH option in the top banner to find these specifically, but if you enter writing AND family AND history in the SEARCH field, you will find other discussions that may include additional hints.

Hope this helps,
