Hi all,
I am hoping someone may understand what I am talking about from the following...hehe I barely know what I am talking about, but you never know!
Last night my mum was telling me about a place she and her family used to go to from Glasgow, for daytrips. She called it Rossy. I immediately thought she meant Rothesay, but she said she used to get there by train. So I am at a loss of where she was talking about and she doesn't know herself, except that it was on the coast and obviously was within travelling distance for a day trip.
Anyway, they used to have running races at this place; it was kind of like a holiday camp or resort that was hired out by the day by (she thought) the Corporative, and anyone could go.
Why I am interested is that Mum and my grandmother were good runners, and used to win these races. My mum can recall a newspaper (or a publication of some sort) with a photo of my grandmother Helen Corr winning a race. I would love to get a hold of that picture, although I admit chances seem slim.
Any suggestions?

Hi Nina
I think it would be Rothesay. I recall going there with my family when I was a boy, on the Kirk outing.
If my memory serves me right, it could be a train from Glasgow to catch the ferry from Dunoon. But it was a long time ago though.

Thanks Ina and StewL,
Yes it probably is Rothesay! I asked her to spell Rossy and she said "Roth...." she couldn't recall the rest. Unless there is another coastal town beginning with Roth and nicknamed Rossy, then I think it had to be Rothesay!
Thanks all, I am off to Bute Sons and Daughters to see what they may know about old photos.

See http://www.butehighlandgames.org.uk/aca ... story.html
Try the name of Wemyss Bay on her, as that's one of the routes from Glasgow, - train to Wemyss Bay, station right along side the pier, see http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-967 , then 35 mins across to Rothesay
