My Dad was a machinist who worked at Weir's before, during and after WWII, until May 1951.
I've had a look on the usual sites for Glasgow, but have not had any luck in finding anything, but then I'm not sure if that was the family name of the owners or was the place where it was located; or if it was a steel mill, a manufacturers, or shipbuilders.
Dad told me, when I was very young, that he 'helped build' the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. I had pictured him actually on the boat. A very romantic notion for a small child, which I eventually came to understand differently as I grew older.
Thanks,
Frances
