SEEKING LIVINGSTONES OF GLASGOW.....

Post by Valjomcs » Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:59 pm

I've been trying to find details re my GGrandfather - William MacDonald

Livingstone believed to have been born in Glasgow around 1845. His

father was James. Apparently William was later articled to an uncle

Christopher, a solicitor most probably practising in either Glasgow or

Birmingham, but abandoned that for a career in the army. He later

married my GGrandmother Elizabeth Frances Wallace in Jan 1879 in

Birmingham.

If any of this sounds familiar or rings any bells, please, please let me

know as todate I've been able to discover absolutely nothing.

Many thanks, Val[/b]

Had a look on the BIVRI but only came up with one William Livingston(e) even close to that date. Maybe his list of siblings might calrify whether this is the right one or not.

SEARCHING FOR LIVINGSTONES OF GLASGOW?

Post by Valjomcs » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:55 pm

Many thanks Mary for the quick reply. Although William's mother's name is one that was repeated in his own children later on (if this is indeed our William) have no recognition of the others at all.

My info on William other than knowing he was supposed to have come from Glasgow (Gorbals area) and been born around 1844 to a father called James is virtually nil I'm afraid. Have no idea of James' age and birthdate whatsoever and since there seems to have been many many Livingstones, Livingstons throughout Scotland, it's been really difficult trying to pinpoint him.

However, many thanks for your info. This could well be him. I will pass on your message to a cousin who's more experienced with all this than I am and see what she thinks.

Many thanks again,
Regards Val

Hi Val,
A quick search of the 1851 Glasgow census name index doesn't show a suitable William.
What is his mother's name?
Does William have any siblings?
When did he leave Scotland?
