Robert Wilson - Singer 1907-1964

Post by caraid » Sun Jan 14, 2007 5:36 pm

Hi folks
Wondering if any of you had heard of this bloke. My Dad just announced!! today that he was some cousin or second cousin to my Nana. Got me all excited :o .My Nana was a Wilson, but because he was born in 1907 and died in 1964 I cannot check to see who his parents were. Just done a wee google and got a little info and I may have to fork out on a wee Scotsman sub to see if they say anything, but thought of you lot first :)
Cheers

Go to the BBC website, and look for replays of programmes today, for BBC Radio Scotland, - you're looking for the Reel Blend with Robbie Shepherd starting 1pm, and fast forward to the second hour, and you'll get the whole second hour as a celebration of the life of Robert Wilson, as 2007 is the 100th anniversary of his birth. He died in tragic circumstances in 1964, - I think, onstage, at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr if my memory serves me correctly.

David who was in the programme before Robbie's :!:

Hi David
Thanks for that, had a quick shifty through but will have a proper listen tommorrow when I am home alone. Also found some clips on the Pathe site that was mentioned in the programme, didn't quiet buy them just had a wee peep. Its a real pity he was born 2nd Jan 2007, could he no have come a few days earlier then I could look him up on SP. I see he has a son so he probably married.
Thanks again

Oh Boy!, - that's one of the longest Googles I've ever done, but I was determined to find something more, - I was juggling several balls y'day evening, so couldn't do more than the quick reference to the Robbie Shepherd programme...........

Any volunteers out there to track down the 1964 Scotsman obituary on Robert Wilson, plus the news story on his death - on stage?, at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr?

Thanks for all your reply's. I've googled the poor man to death (excuse the pun) and I now think I'll have to contact gros for his BC as I really need to find out his parents names.

Just in case SKS has the chance to have a look before you spend the money, the details are born in Cambuslang, Scotland, on 2 January 1907.
