A place called Slunkford can be found at the mid west part of Durisdeer on this map.
Kind regards,

Got it!
Go to: http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/counties.h ... friesshire
pick Dumfriesshire and then 1828 John Thomson 's map
On the next page choose the top left section and the yellow portion in the middle.
zoom in on the area halfway along the border at the top joining the green area.
UI hope you can follow that?
It's actually marked as SLUNKFORD.
Present day location?
south east of Mennock acros the river from Glengenny. There is an unmarked farm up the hill from ARDOCH which may or may not be in the right place.
This link may show the right area.

Thanks Lesley

hi annette thanks this was driving me crazy comparing the map you give and the os map it looks like that the railway line now follows the old road and at slunkord it actually is on the trace of the old road sadly it looks that slunkford houses were demolished.where did you find this map and you wouldnt happen to know the rough scale and date of map.
again thanks cheers derek from france

The nls.uk is a great site for old maps and these County maps usually have great detail.
I take it you now know where to look after reading Wilma's post.
Kind regards,
