In 1855 the 112th Regiment appears to be based at Stirling.
I think that it may have a connection with Edinburgh and that it might be mounted unit?
My Great Grandfather was a corporal in that Regiment and he was also a blacksmith.
Could anybody provide me with more information regarding the 112th
Thanks
Dona

Re: 112th Regiment - 1855
The only periods when there was a 112th regiment in the British Army were 1761-1763 and 1794-1795, this from www.regiments.org , and cross checked with William and Adams' "History of the British Regular Army : A Dative Record of the Sovereign's Regiments".Dona wrote:In 1855 the 112th Regiment appears to be based at Stirling.

Such a high number could only ever relate to a regiment of foot, soooo.... are you sure that you are reading the number correctly?
The 2nd Dragoons were Scottish, - later the Royal Scots Greys, - but they were either in Crimea as part of the Heavy Brigade in 1855, or maybe on the way back to England.....
The 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales') were also in Crimea in 1855.
If you have an 1855 certificate, can you upload the image to the Gallery here?, - as this is a bit of a mystery ...........

That was easy !, - pity about all that time that you wasted
Try "42 Regt"
known then as the (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot, aka The Black Watch.
Now, the regiment was in the Crimea, see http://www.regiments.org/deploy/uk/reg-inf/042-1.htm , so he must have been part of a cadre left in Edinburgh.
See www.britishbattles.com/crimean-war/sevastopol.htm about half way down for a brilliant picure of a serjent of the Black Watch in the Crimea.
