Would he change regiments?

One of my rellies is noted as being in the 5th Regiment of Dragoons in Msy 1802 when he marries. When his children arrive he is noted as being Sgt Major in Ayrshire Yeomanry.

Would he or could he have changed regiments?

Yes, - in fact there were many more such changes than people realise.

Have you had a look at the TNA online catalogue to see if his discharge papers have survived?
