McCrea's in Larne Co .....

Post by JMac » Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:21 pm

I would love help in trying to trace some of my relatives from Larne County Antrim.
I did find some on the 1911 census for Victoria Street but nothing more, has anybody census returns for after this date or before?
also I cant find any information on the marriage of Andrew McCrea to Mary Leith, he was born Belfast about 1865, she County Antrim 1866.
thanks for your help.
John McCrea.

Hello John,

Welcome to TalkingScot!

Sorry, but I don't have any quick answers to your question. But, there is a seminar being held in Glasgow in the upcoming weeks, which will be covering this topic. See

http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6923

If you're unable to attend the seminar but would like to receive a power point presentation of the seminar, then please get in touch with Liz Turner, by sending her an e-mail.

I also have a family member by the surname of McCrea from Northern Ireland, maybe we have a connection?

Regards
Marilyn

Dear Marilyn
Many thanks for your reply.
Still having trouble getting information on Andrew and Mary my GG grandparents although they are shown on the 1911census all of their children were not,for the want of a better word "they must have been out that day"
Have you got any census returns of the same years and areas?
If you don't mind me asking can i ask you about your McCrea's in Larne?
What names do you have ? and did they come from the same areas as mine, Rory's Glen Kilwaughter, Fairhill/ Victoria street, Queens Street?
many thanks hope to hear from you soon

Hello John,

I'm terribly sorry to get your hopes up, but after re-checking my records my relative was McCrae and not McCrea

All the best with your research on this family.

Marilyn

Hello John,

Finally, I've had a moment to find my McCrae family details. How they tie into my family tree is through my Dixon line. Its documented that my Dixon family is from County Down, Ireland and not Antrim, as I had earlier thought them to be. Its my Morning family who lived in Antrim, Ireland. The details I have are slim, but you're welcome to the information.

My ggggg gf, Hugh Dixon married Sarah McCrae and they had a son, Hugh Dixon b. approx. 1810, Ireland.

My ggggg gf, Adam Airdrie married Letitia McCrae and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Airdrie b. approx. 1811, Ireland.

Hugh Dixon married Elizabeth Airdrie. This is all the information I have on the McCrae family line.

Regards
Marilyn

Many thanks for the info, i have just got my GG grand fathers and mothers marriage certificate from Dublin and note that they were married in Ballymena County Antrim on 2nd Sep 1886, his fathers name was John McCrea and profession "farmer"
could you give me any help on this ? as i tried to locate the 1861 / 1871 census returns for Belfast but i dont think any are available!! i am trying to trace any more within the family..
also on the cert it says that it was in the "presence of/ Samuel McCrea and Mary Jane McCrea, are these andrew's brother and sister?.

If Andrew was born in 1865 its possible John could have been married shortly before that. The only John McCrea I can find married in the 1860's in Belfast was married in 1864 to an Agnes MAIRS in the Registry Office in Shankill, Belfast on 25th March. Also found one in Ballymena -
Entry Details

Record Type Civil Marriage
Date of Marriage 22 Jan 1861
Groom Name john MCCREA
Bride Name margaret WILSON
Church Buckna Presbyterian Church
Parish Racavan
Civil District Ballymena
County Antrim

Hope this helps.
