strange goings on?

Post by jennyblain » Wed Feb 14, 2007 10:54 am

I'm getting messages about replies to threads, when there aren't any. So, this morning there was an email arrived (timed around 7 this morning, not last night) saying there was a reply to my 'landsman' post in Working Lfe... there wasn't. But stranger was the email that arrived yesterday, saying there was a response to the 'Glasgow Eastern Necropolis' thread in the Cemetaries and MIs section. I went eagerly there, but not only was there no post there, the whole thread had disappeared...

What's going on? Is this to do with the  spammers, and junk posts that a mod has removed? That would make sense (and thanks to mods for their vigilance). But what happened to the 'Glasgow Eastern Necropolis'... ? :?

What's happening here is that there's been a new post in a thread that you're watching, so that an alert goes out immediately to you.

However, if it's a porn or otherwise unacceptable post, and an AG member or Mod spots it and removes it to quarantine before you check the thread, there'll be nothing there to match the alert that you received.

So fear not, it's not fairies or little green men [alien] , but those complete and utter numpties out there who insist on continuing to "spam" TalkingScot with unacceptable posts, be those porn or product advertising ........

It looks like the complete 'Glasgow Eastern Necropolis' thread was moved to quarantine because of a numtie's post. Now restored to its proper palce minus the offensive post.

Thanks David. This is what I suspected. Had not realised just how frequent the junk posts were becoming here.

Is there anything that can be done to put new people on 'hold' for at least a couple of hours before they can post - as in have each new member's first post moderated? Or would that be overkill and far too much work for the mods, given the number of real members who are joining? (And I know that some forums can do this and some can't.)

Thanks for replacing the 'lost' thread.. :)
