Bridge of Turk

Post by Morag » Wed Feb 14, 2007 2:26 pm

Can anyone help me find where Bridge of Turk is ?
It is mentioned a few times in a will - the writing is quite clear , and a couple of people seem to live there. One is a shoemaker , so I am assuming it is a village and not a farm. The person leaving the will lives near Callander - as do many of the family - so again I am assuming that it is near there. The family involved are Stewarts and Campbells - so if I can narrow down where they are living it will make searches a lot easier !

Thanks David - Glenfinglas was where the person making the will lived - so they didn't live far away !

Nae prob!

The 1881 census shows 19 households with Glen of Turk in the address, including the quite fascinating James MUNRO , 55, Master Of Passenger Lake Steamer, - presumably the steamship Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine :!:

Plus Robert CAMPBELL, 75, b. Callander, Perth, Scotland, Shoemaker

John STEWART, 83, b. Callander, Perth, Scotland, Retired Meal Miller and son-in-law Duncan Ferguson and family.

John STEWART, 36, b.Aberfoyle, Perth, Scotland, General Labourer & family.

After all that and some excitement at finding new people - I found that I had clicked to purchase the wrong Robert Stewart's will - so these people from Bridge of Turk aren't mine ! Another £5 spent ( on the image below)and the will I wanted revealed no information at all that I didn't already know !
There has to be a connection as one of my Stewarts was a shoemaker and lived in Callander - I will need to keep digging !

Thanks for the help anyway !
