McConnachy - Aberdeen and Kintyre in Argyllshire.....

I am continuing with my research of the McConnachy family in Aberdeen and Argyllshire (Saddell on the Kintyre Peninsula in Argllshire).

I am particularly interested in three things -

1. John McConnachy (born c.1805) - coastguard for Aberdeen (Bridge of Don and Peterhead stations) in 1840-1860's. John originated in Saddell in Argyllshire but lived and worked around Aberdeen as a coastguardsman. He married Mary Bruce and they had 9 children - many of who moved to Australia. Most of the sons were shipwrights. Does anyone have more info on the McConnachy family in Aberdeen or the Aberdeen coastguard?

2. John's father was Peter McConnachy from Argylshire. I understand that there is a book called - "List of Inhabitants upon the Duke of Argyle's Property in Kintyre in 1792" Edited by A. I. B. Stewart

Does anyone have access to this book to find out if Peter McConnachy or other McConnachy family members are mentioned?

3. There is another book called - "Kintyre -The Hidden Past" by Angus Martin, ISBN 085976 119 3

Hi again,
Did you ever get John's mother Helen's death cert and John's birth record?

I note on OCLC WorldCAT that there are 33 libraries worldwide that have the first book and 100 that have the second. Not sure where you are, but have you checked the catalog of the closest big library?

Thanks Sarah - I have found another McConnachy out there in the world of family research and she sent me John's birth and Helen's death records. It is indeed very interesting.

Thanks also for the library link - that is very useful. I am in Australia so there do not appear to be any copies here but now at least I know where copies are and one day.....one day I may be able to look up a copy. Your help is much appreciated!
