Still looking for info on the above. An ancestor, James Speir/Spier died there some time after 1825. He had previously farmed at Yonderhouses. I have been told there is/was a Goldencraig farm just to the north east of Kilwinning.
Does anybody have info on the area or Scottish toll roads.
Many thanks
Goldencraig tollbar, Kilwinning.....

I did find a Goldcraigs on an old map.
http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/547.html
select the top left sheet and click around the middle until you get Kilwinning.
Goldcraigs is to the North East, off a road that runs north on the East side of the river. On a modern road map, it's not the A737 or the B778 but a smaller unnumbered one inbetween.
Using that as a referrence, go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ type in Kilwinning under the place search. then click one to the right [ east] and twice north [up] then request the enlarged view. On that, Goldencraig is on the extreme Noryth East above the Railway and a great big N.
It is marked there as " Goldencraig T. P. " and below that is marked BM 112.9 . Any idea of what that means exactly ?

Good - glad to be of help
I have just spoken to my father he was down that road last week and after we talked about it , I realised that I too have travelled that way often, as my husband has relatives in Kilwinning. Maybe I'll manage to sweet-talk one of them to find out the names of the houses still there
I did find a rather interesting story of the place at :
http://www.maybole.org/community/kirkos ... ecords.htm
A case of a woman who murdered her newborn twins and buried them at Goldencraig farm, the owner then [1860 ] was a James Heggie aged 40.

This is great. Now I just need to find info on him at Yonderhouses. It was actually his sister Margaret (married John Maitland) that I am descended from. I am after info on Janet Dickie and John Spiers who farmed at Biglees, W Kilbride and Yonderhouses, Ardrossen in the early 1800's Both farms were part of the Eglinton estate.
Many thanks
