110 year old paper in magnetic album

Post by kathyc » Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:20 pm

Anyone have any ideas for rescuing paper stuck in an old magnetic photo album?

I have a list, written by my GG grandmother, of her school-aged children's birthdates and information about the school they attended before they returned to Scotland from the States. It's very fragile, and the great aunt I borrowed it from kept it "safe" by putting it in her magnetic family photo album. I'm going to photograph it to preserve a copy of it, but also want to keep the original as safe as possible.

I've had great luck getting the photos out of the album undamaged with dental floss, but the paper is way too thin and fragile. Am I stuck - no pun intended ;) - with leaving it where it is?

I would try to find a document specialist, it may be pricey, but well worth it for your sentimental value.

You could try taking it into a "good" framer.........they deal with lots of fragile paper etc. Maybe even have it framed up and kept for your own gr granchildren! They would be able at least to advise well, if nothing else
