Have you heard of the Sunshine Girls .....

Post by delmarco » Sat Apr 07, 2007 10:49 pm

Hello All:

I have yet another question for the illustrious board. I was told that a great aunt, had joined the sunshine girls, which is a sort of au pair?? She could not afford passage to Canada, and was able to join this group and work off her passage by working for a family in Toronto. Has anyone come across this before?? I tried to google it and came up with a "calendar girl" website. I know she did do some modeling in Canada, mostly print ads. She was also a hoochie coochie dancer in the World at Home Circus, which I could not find either. Apparently she danced the Hula, The Highland Fling, and A snake Charmer type dance with a live snake. I cant believe she was my grandmothers sister, talk about night and day!!

Please let me know.
Karen
Make it a great day!

Thanks to the post I saw from David, I did a trial version of Ancestry, and found this rellie on the Canadian Boarder Crossing.

Apparently using an alias of Sylvia Lesell, she was married, going to Buffalo NY in 1916. The boarder record shows her as given name: Anna Mailes (could be mis indexed, to me lloks like was), Sylvia and last name Foley, was Lesell. Her occupation is listed as Vaudeville performer.

Thanks David, for sort of subliminal push!
