Hackers

Post by gordie » Fri Apr 27, 2007 7:53 pm

Hi Folks,
Has anyone else experienced this?.
I've recently been recieving emails which read something like this:
" Dear ******, in reply your request we can offer you great deals on monthly loan repayments please fill in your details on the online form".
The ****** is one of my passwords so I looked up my secret password list to see what it referred to and found that it was www.scotgenealogy.com. I had visited the site once and registered to have a look around the site and then forgot about it. Needless to say all the messages I've received have been binned unopened.
So I visited Scotgenealogy with a view to deregister or at the least change the password and saw in big red letters that the site had been Hacked with the hackers netname proudly displayed.
So I think a review of all my passwords is in order and any that I no longer use will be removed from the sites they refer to.
Regards,
Gordie

Aaack! That's terrible  Thanks for the heads-up-- I'm sure other members will appreciate the warning.

These hackers really are vermin but it's scandalous that your username and password has been taken from the site. I took a look and the provider is an American company named Network Soultions but whoever the host was obviously didn't lock the site down very well.

All the best in getting your passwords changed and giving the rest of us a warning.

Cheers

Rab.

Thanks for that Gordie.

I just checked my own list and, luckily, it is probably one of the few Scottish genealogy sites I've NOT been on.

These people really are the pits!

Hullo all

A friend has asked me to post the following about the scotsgen site.

"The hacked Scotgenealogy site. If anyone goes to look, it automatically tries to download a Realplayer programme. If the viewer has insufficient protection, then they could be in real trouble. This download is seriously suspect."

Best wishes
