Williamina Henderson married George Ferguson 1919 Motherwell, Lanark.
They then emigrated to Ohio, USA, which I have researched.
Now seeking further info on the Henderson's.
Parents were William Henderson and Elizabeth Strachan.

Hi scopeo
If you don't have any information on William and Elizabeth yet nor do you have them found on the 1901 census then I think the easiest and surest way to be certain you have the right family is to track backward from Williamina's BC. Her MC gives you her age and knowing the parish of her marriage it's very easy to pick out her birth as being indexed on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk like so:
1892 HENDERSON WILLIAMINA F DALZIEL /LANARK 639/00 0044
This can be proven as a match by comparing the occupation of her father on her MC to that on her BC. Her BC will also contain the valuable information of just when and where her parents were married. Finding this piece of the puzzle will then lead you to finding their parents names and so forth.
Best wishes
Jean

Thank you both, Sarah and Jean, for your comments.
However, now retired and on a pension one has to be careful with the pennies. I have already spent a wee fortune researching the Ferguson line back to 1731, practically all done through ScotlandsPeople.
Then I was contacted by Clan Fergus(s)on in the USA re their DNA-Project as they were interested in my pedigree. (nothing exciting yet) Declining their request due to cost months later they offered to do it for me. Then, feeling pangs of guilt, I asked my wife to donate to their project instead of giving me a 69th birthday present. This was made in honour of former Ayrshire Ferguson's.
Therefore, I was genuinely hoping that perhaps....just perhaps, that my thread could be picked up by someone researching the Henderson's.
Like so many things in life....what you'd like to do and what you can afford to do....are two different things.
Warm regards to you both.
John

Hi scopeo,
You don't say if you have the family in any censuses. In case not, here are 1901 and 1891:
1901
40 Windmillhill St, Dalziel, Motherwell, Lanarkshire
Wm Henderson, 43, Head, born Benhshm, Kincardineshire, Steel Smelter (unemployed)
Eliz Henderson, 41, Wife, born Stonehaven, Kincardineshire
Jessie Henderson, 16, Daur, born Mwell, Lanarkshire, Domestic Ser
Eliz S Henderson, 12, Daur, born Mwell, Lanarkshire, Scholar
Williamina Henderson, 9, Daur, born Mwell, Lanarkshire, Scholar
Robt Henderson, 7, Son, born Mwell, Lanarkshire, Scholar
Hilda Henderson, 1, Daur, born Mwell, Lanarkshire
1891
44 Windmillhill St, Dalziel, Motherwell, Lanarkshire
William Henderson, 33, Head, born Scotland, Kincardineshire, Steelsmelter
Elizabeth Henderson, 31, Wife, born Scotland, Kincardineshire
James Henderson, 19, Nephew, born Scotland, Kincardineshire, Steam Crane Driver
Jessie Henderson, 5, Daur, born Motherwell, Scholar
Elizabeth Henderson, 2, Daur, born Motherwell
Mary H Strachan, 16, Servant, born Scotland, Forfarshire, General Servant
You have the bonus of a nephew as well. I wonder if Mary Strachan was a relative of Elizabeth?
All the best,
Sarah

Hi John,
William and Elizabeth weren't married yet in 1881. The only William I find born in Benholm (I'm assuming that is what Ancestry meant by Benhshm in 1901!) is a Police Constable in Hamilton, Lanark... Hmmmm. That doesn't sound right, does it? The only other William born in Kincardineshire was born in Nigg and is a Gardner Jobbing.
These are their births on the IGI:
WILLIAM HENDERSON
12 Aug 1857 Benholm, Kincardine, Scotland
Father: WILLIAM HENDERSON
Mother: ELIZA SIMPSON
WILLIAM HENDERSON
29 Sep 1858 Nigg, Kincardine
Father: PETER HENDERSON
Mother: MARGARET SINCLAIR
No Elizabeth born in Stonehaven to be found in 1881 either, but there is this one born in Fetteresso:
1881
1 Union Street, Brechin, Angus
Jessie Strachan, 39, Head, born Dunotter, Kincardineshire, Householder
Elizabeth H Strachan, 21, Daughter, born Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Factory Worker
Jessie Strachan, 19, Daughter, born Dunotter, Kincardineshire, Factory Worker
William Strachan, 17, Son, born Montrose, Forfarshire, Baker
John Strachan, 15, Son, born St Cyrus, Kincardineshire, Grocer
Mary Helen Strachan, 6, Daughter, born Brechin, Forfarshire, Scholar
In order to be sure of the earlier censuses, we really need to look at the marriage certificate and see who their parents are.
Hope this helps,
Sarah

Sarah, what a gem you are.
I only had the 1901 census for George Ferguson, still living with his parents in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. However, from the MC I concur with the occupation of William Henderson as steel smelter and the correct age for Williamina.
You have single-handed provided me with all that I needed to know about the Hendersons.
And once again proved what a great site this is....standing head and shoulders above ALL the others.
If you were close enough, Sarah, I'd give you a hug, but luckily for you you are too distant.

Well, I do get around... so you are never completely safescopeo wrote:If you were close enough, Sarah, I'd give you a hug, but luckily for you you are too distant.
Seriously, if that was really all you needed to know about the Hendersons, you are much more restrained than most of us!
All the best,
Sarah

Please, don't underestimate my abilities.
And if you ever intend visiting Australia just let me know.
I never set out to just collect names and dates. Initially, I have mainly focussed only on the Ferguson line, due to the cost factor. Now, having gone back to the start of my research I'm tying up all the loose ends. This includes paying for downloads of the census I earlier neglected....due to cost.
Secondly, my desk has a mountain of notes and paperwork that has accumulated over the past year as I maintained my momentum of output working online 7 days a week. This year I intend to get out more, wishful thinking as I've been here all morning. And they talk about coffee being addictive, huh!!
Scotland is my main focus before I go gallivanting off to the new cousins in Australia, Canada and the USA.
And, honest, Sarah, I'm not really that restrained.
Cheers
