Catherine Morrow Kincaid

Post by nelmit » Sat May 05, 2007 7:12 pm

Been hoping this lady died in Scotland for a few years now but despite many searches on SP have never found her.

a few weeks ago I found a poorhouse application made by her son (my gg grandfather George Kincaid) that led me to Greenock where his sister Mary Ann Gordon lived.

From that I found the death registration of my ggg grandfather John Kincaid in 1886. :D He was the widower of Catherine Morrow as I hoped he would be. I have just found them on the 1881 census under Kincaide and low and behold there was Catherine (Cathran) age 57 born Ireland. As a double check I looked for the marriage of Eliza Jane Kincaid (with them in 1881) and found one in 1883 in Greenock -correct parents, neither deceased.

I have tried every wildcard combination I can think of and still cannot find the death entry of Catherine. :?

The only explanation, other than a mis-index, would be that sometime between 1883 and 1886 she went back to Ireland 'to die' which I think would be strange if John died in Greenock.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hello Annette,

no luck here, and I tried every devious wildcard that I could imagine. The only way to be sure of no reported death in Scotland is to look at the year's summary of deaths for each registration district. These are on fiches in NRH (I do not know the situation in Park Circus).

Regards,

John

Hello John,

Thanks for looking - at least I know it isn't me.

Best wishes,
Annette

Hi Annette,
Could she have lived longer and they put down the wrong thing on her husband's death cert? There is a Catherine Morrow, dressmaker who died in Dunoon in 1902, age 75, parents unknown. I can't find this person on the 1901 census, so she may have just appeared there and no one knew who she was or what her married name had been? Well, it's a long shot, but it's all I can find. The informant is a nurse.

All the best,
Sarah

Hello Sarah,

Thanks for that. I searched SP for a Catherine Morrow in 1901 in Dunoon and it came up with a 55 year old - poor woman must have looked awfy old for her age if she was entered as 75 when she died the following year.
This lady was a dressmaker so it is definitely the same person but I'm afraid she was single so it doesn't look as though she's mine but I really appreciate your help.

Kind regards,
Annette M
