Going to the Mitchell Library

Post by CathieL » Mon May 07, 2007 3:34 pm

Hi
Could someone tell me how to get to the Mitchell Library from the Central Station. Is it too far to just take a taxi? I hope to go there a few times in the next couple of weeks :D

Cathie - where are you heading in from? Charing Cross is much closer, but it's on the other line.

Hi Miss Poohs
I will be staying in Kilbirnie and I think the train station is called Glengarnock.

Hi Cathie

Russell would be the best person to ask for some directions. Why don't you try and send him a pm?

Marilyn

Hi Cathie
There is information about how to get there on this page:
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... tchell.htm
- with a link to a map too. Hope that is some help.

It is not too far to walk from Queen Street or Central Station - about a 15-20 min. walk as far as I remember (depends how fast you walk!!) Not too far to take a taxi, but I have no idea of the cost - it must only be about a mile's journey, though with the one-way systems it could end up longer than that!!

Best wishes
Lesley

It isn't a long walk at all but that depends on how able you are. I usually get the bus there but walk back into town. Otherwise you have a few options

Get a taxi - easiest method if you don't know where you're going - fare would depend on time of day but should only be a few pounds, certainly less than £5.

Get the train to Charing cross from Glasgow Central. The trains leave from the low level every 5 to 15 minutes. Charing cross is only a short walk to the Mitchell. If you could buy a through ticket from Glengarnock to Charing Cross that would be great but knowing our unco-ordinated transport system probably not possible!

Brave the bus - I definitely know that the Nos 16, 18, 44 and 57 leave from just outside Central and go to the Kings Theatre/Mitchell quite frequently but if you don't know the area it might not be so easy to find where the bus back leaves from.

Regards
Tom

Thank you everyone. I looked at the Mitchell website before I posted my question but I am packing my suitcase today (trying to keep in mind it is at least 25 degrees cooler there than it is here) and to tell you the truth I am so excited about leaving in the morning that my brain is a lot more scrambled than it usually is . I just could not concentrate on the map. Now I know how to get there and again thank you all for all the help.

Ohhh Cathie there's a chance my husband will be driving you there - he's a train driver down that neck of the woods.

If you fancy a natter in town I'll PM you my mob no and we could maybe meet up - in the Mitchell or there abouts.

Understand you'll be busy though, just have fun.
