I am looking for James Gilfillan who married Grizel Waygateshaw they married 02 May 1794 Wiston & Roberton Lanarkshire.
I have been able to get further on her side of the tree but not his CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE.
I know they had 2 sons, John 12 Oct 1794 WIston & Roberton and James 28 Mar 1797 Wiston & Roberton. I have managed to get alot on John's side but dont seem to be able to find anything on James.

I am really stuck on this and would love to get back further as i never knew much about my Scottish side.

hi daisyboo
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

Have you seen the OPR entry for the 1794 marriage? Any helpful information, such as his occupation or whether he was from that parish etc? Sometimes this will be stated, sometimes not.

The first son being called John would suggest (if using the Scottish naming pattern) that John was also the name of James' father. Can you tell us where you found the two births?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi,
I have the OPR records for both the marriage and both of the births of the children, i found these on Scotlandspeople web site.Unfortunatly on the marriage it does not give any more info than the names of the people getting married and the date.
thanks
Sara
