Comrades of the Great War

I have a copy of a membership certificate in the "Comrades of the Great War" dated May 23, 1919 belonging to a relative, Stuart SNOWDON. To my knowledge he was never in the military. Is there a source of further information? Thank you. Dave.

Hi Dave

The Comrades of the Great War were associations of ex servicemen who formed when the men returning from the war found the land fit for heros didn't materialise. In 1921 they merged with 3 similar associations to form the Royal British Legion. You might find out more by looking for the history of the RBL. But it was definitely an ex servicemen's association.

Best wishes

Thanks for you response and info Maise. I now know more about the organization. I have not yet found a site where I can enter Stuart SNOWDON's name as a member and find some info on him specifically. Perhaps no such records exist. Dave.
