Good News!

Post by Pandabean » Sat May 26, 2007 12:12 am

Just got an email today from the CWGC regarding my great grandfather, Robert Greenlees. Seems that they are getting to the stages of making the stone. I have been asked to confirm the design with the cross, but I have also been asked about a small private inscription. I have yet to think of something. So I am on the final stages now of getting it all done. :D

Congratulations Andy. I imagine it will be difficult to settle on the most appropriate inscription.
Wishing you all the best.

Yeh the inscription is the hardest part of the process. I have no idea what I am going to put forward yet. :(

There's several classics taken from WWI poetry.

This, but maybe a wee bit long ............

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

from Laurence Binyon's For The Fallen.

See http://www.smr.herefordshire.gov.uk/edu ... Poetry.htm .

Then there's the classic..........

They gave their tomorrow for our today.
