I need a history lesson please.
The Disruption occurred in 1843.
I contacted the Free church to try and get some information about the church in Kilmuir.
the information I got was that in Kilmuir & Staffin a Free church congregation was the first of a revival movement, conucted by blind Donald Munro, which began in Kilmuir about 1812.
Does that mean that members of this congregation would no longer be recorded on the Parish Registers ?

Hi Wini,
The records from Kilmuir Parish (Established Church of Scotland) start in 1817 (or 1822, depending which source you believe). Within that parish a Government Church was established at Stenscholl, creating a Quoad Sacra parish within the main parish. The Stenscholl records are in the OPRs alongside Kilmuir and date from 1838.
I see no sign of the LDS having filmed any records from the Free Church at Kilmuir. Also, I see no sign of any of their records being held by (or copied by) NAS in Edinburgh.
Technically Free Church baptisms and marriages should have been recorded in the Parochial Registers (later to become the OPRs), but as these registers were maintained by the Established Church there were few non-Established Church events recorded there.
All the best,
AndrewP
