Herdmans of Saltcoats and Paisley

Post by AnneHM » Sun Jun 03, 2007 3:45 pm

Looking for info about my grandparents' family Willie and Nan (Currie) Herdman who ran Herdmans Bakery in Saltcoats. 1870 to 1968.
Willie had six brothers and sisters and the family originally came from Paisley. More info on www.freewebs.com/martinayrshire
Looking for contacts and info on the following families: Herdmans of Paisley, Ardrossan; Martins of Stevenston and Paisley, Curries of Kilbirnie, Robertsons and Pettigrews of Paisley and Glasgow, Smiths of Achmore.

Herdmans of Saltcoats and Paisley

Hi AnneHM
I see you have already checked out the "threetowners" website. Try e-mailing Mrs Jill McColl at localhistoryATnorth-ayrshire.gov.uk and ask if she holds "valuation roll/s" or anything else which would deal with the Herdmans and the bakery.
I well remember Herdmans when I was a boy in Saltcoats.

Kind regards.

Herdmans of Saltcoats and Paisley

I was born late forties, raised in Saltcoats and went to sea mid-sixties. I met my future wife here in Fremantle, married in Saltcoats and emigrated early seventies. We now have three daughters and three and one half grand-children. The rest of my family still live in Saltcoats.

Kind regards.

I don't suppose you are related to David and Ronnie McCreadie who lived in Dalry in the 1950s? They would be in their sixties now.

I went back to Saltcoats some years ago - and it all seemed so much smaller than I had remembered. I left in 1964. Herdmans upstairs was a kilt maker's shop!
I think it was a lovely town to grow up in - by the sea.
