Mystery - Arthur Borland Gillespie & John Storrie Gilles

Post by darylrodger » Wed Jun 20, 2007 8:24 pm

Hi,

Can anyone help me with a family mystery ? I can't seem to find out anything on my grandfather's brothers, Arthur Borland Gillespie, b. 5th Oct 1892, & John Storrie Gillespie b. 13th Apr 1899.

Any advice ?

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi Daryl
Not sure what you have tried already - any sign of them in the 1901 census?

If they stayed in Scotland and married before 1931 then they should be online, but if married after 1931, then you would need to visit NRH or Park Circus to catch up with them. Same with deaths - if they were living after 1956 their deaths will not be online.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,

I've had a look at the 1901 census and they appear in that. Arthur was 8 years old, and his brother John 1 year old. I then tried marriages & deaths, but without success. :( That really leaves the thought that they might have died during WW1. Where would I look for death returns ? :?

Hi Daryl
The obvious place to begin to look for WW1 deaths would be the Commonwealth War Grave Commission web site:
www.cwgc.org
also try the Scottish National War Memorial site:
www.snwm.org

Hi Lesley,

Thanks for the links to the websites. I had a look, but couldn't find them there either! :? I'm rapidly losing the will to live! It's driving me daft . . .

Oh well, I tried my best.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Daryl

Hi Daryl
If they are not on SP and they did not die in WW1, a wee trip to "Park Circus" just might illuminate your darkness! (on the assumption they lived until after 1956.....)

If course, they may have left the country - America? Canada? Australia?

Best wishes
Lesley
