An ancestor of mine seems to have been schoolmaster in Moneydie. He was John Imrie, who married Margaret Duncan on 11 June 1704 in Edinburgh. The record is tantalising -
"Imrie, Mr John, schoolmaster in par. of Moneydie; Margaret Duncan, late servant to Lady Bearford, in S.K. p. 11 June 1704" - and there are later references to Moneydie (e.g. in their daughter Margaret's marriage record).
But I haven't found any Perthshire records that seem to relate to them.
Anybody have connections with Moneydie?

Hi Jenny
From Kirk Session records that I have seen the school master was, I think, usually appointed by the Kirk Session (because the school was funded by the Kirk back then) and they sometimes required some kind of "reference" if the applicant for the job was from another parish. The school master may get a few mentions in the Kirk Session records subsequently so Moneydie Kirk Session may be an area to explore, if you have not already done so.
Best wishes
Lesley
