Hi Brenda,
Try this search on ScotlandsPeople to gain what I would suggest is a convincing answer.
OPR Births: Surname: M*cr*d*, parent-1 name: J*n* F*rg* and no other details. You will get 11 results, of which 6 under various spellings of surname are from Thomas and Jean. The remaining 5 are all from another couple about 30 years later.
It looks like son John probably did not remember his grand-parents' names correctly when he registered his mother's death.
All the best,
AndrewP

If it is any consolation to you, I have located six or seven different spelling of my McCreadies - AND THEY ARE ALL IN MY LINE which originated in Ballantrae but probably Ireland before that.
Good luck; you'll need it.

I CANN,TWORK OUT THE MCCREADIE FAMILY
I TOO HAVE McCREADIE in all its spellings. In the 1841 Census it is spelled as MacCreddie
They are the most frustrating family as on one certificate I have Grace MacCreadie, her father as John McCready and her sister as Fanny McCredie.
This Grace comes in the middle of the family and she always insisted her Mother was Jane Scott. All the rest have Margaret Ferguson as their Mother
Margaret Ferguson was born in Tarbolton and all the rest in Old Monkland
I don,t think will ever get to the bottom of this family so at the moment they are on the backburner

I CAN'T WORK OUT THE MCCREADIE FAMILY
Hi Wini
I've been re-reading the entries of this post and JUST NOW noticed your reference to Margaret Ferguson. IF my research is correct, my line is descended from John McCREADIE (b. 13 May 1782 at Finnart) who married Mary FERGUSON/FERGUSSON (b. 28 Oct 1785, Ballantrae). Mary's parents were David FERGUSSON (sic) and Mary McEWEN. Ring any bells?
In addition, I would greatly appreciate your advice re searching for McCREADIEs who emigrated from Newton-on-Ayr to Queensland circa 1882. I can be contacted at jim.mccreadie[AT]bigpond.com
Kindest regards.
