Mc/Mac names are more difficult to find than the notorious Smith variety and the variants are just that, extremely varied. Even the easier ones sound and look different depending on whether the Registrar or Census taker was a Gaelic speaker. If you don't know that in Gaelic 'Mh' is pronounced 'V' or that the b in 'dubh' is silent then some names can look decidedly odd but sound remarkably familiar.
