Where can I start looking ?

Post by Mo-anne » Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:45 am

I would like to identify my grandparents' siblings - in my grandfather's case there were 8 or 9; in my grandmother's case 14. IGI have produced 5 names but the other births were after 1875. I don't even have first names for most of the missing ones. They were in service so moved about - every birth so far is in a different parish.

Ideas gratefully received

Hi Mo-Anne,
If you have the Great Grand Parents names you can search for the Births to them on the http://www.familysearch.org

Thanks but I've already tried this - it gave me births before 1875 but most of the births I'm trying to trace were after 1875

Hi Mo-anne,

As some of them are post-1875 (post-IGI), the next route is to find the family group in the censuses to track down the names and estimated birth years of the children. Using that information, you should be able to find their birth certificates on ScotlandsPeople.

All the best,

AndrewP
